Silly Summer Edition of Cooky, Crazy Kid Sayings

Time for the Funny Family Fisher-isms Summer Edition:

--Me to Riley: You can give Roxie that tiny piece of leftover steak. Riley: Oh she will LOVE that! Dogs love human meat! Chris in response: Ha ha! That reminds me of the sign at a restaurant that read: "Tables are for eating customers only."

--Maggie to Chris after I took away a privilege due to her disobedience: Dad, try to convince Mom to give me 10 more minutes on her phone. Chris to Maggie: No, I'm not going to pick a fight with Mom. Maggie: Oh, come on, Dad! You can't give your husband a consequence...PLEASE just do it for me!

--Maggie at dinner one night: I'm being a house clown, it's like a class clown but at home of course!

--Riley at dinner one night: I'm sucking all the juice out of this ham! It's my favorite meat!

--Maggie (begging for more snacks as usual): You have Wheat Thins? Oh I LOVE those crackers!!! They leave flavor in my teeth!

--Riley (as we were driving around Charlotte looking for a place to eat): Oh look, there's Sushi LOL ...oh wait, I think that means Sushi 101.

--Maggie (stalling before bed as usual): Guess what? I figured out how to set a timer on my Alexa sound machine so that when I wake up it won't be "pitch silent."

--Riley (talking about Nan and Pap's dog): Cleo sounds just like Roxie when she drinks water. They must have the same tongue structure!

--Maggie (randomly one day): Mom, I want a rabbit as a pet. There are 2 kinds of rabbits. The one kind that is brown and hops away in the street and the other that is a LOAF OF FLUFF. I want that one.

--Maggie (after she found out Chris and I were going out for the night and she wasn't invited): Wait? There will only be adults at this party? Why? Is it because they are serving "beer cookies" or something??

--Maggie (after riding the Copperhead Strike twice back to back on an extremely non-crowded day at Carowinds at the beginning of summer): I've been passing gas a lot ever since we rode the Copperhead Strike. I thought I might puke, but I guess it's just coming out the other end!

--Maggie (reflecting on the Panthers slogan): So, the Panthers say "Keep Pounding", right? But shouldn't it really be "Keep Pouncing", because panthers pounce.

--Riley (after hearing a ridiculous saying like the ones above by his sister): Oh that is "Pure Maggie!"

--Riley (carrying on our love for silly jokes and picking out a Father's Day card for Chris that involved taking naps): Hey Dad, your puns are great, but I may have to SLEEP on it to be sure. :)

--Maggie (who also loves a good pun): So did you hear what the guy said to the waiter? Waiter, this coffee tastes like mud. Well, yes sir, it is FRESH GROUND.

Funny Fisher-isms May Day Edition

So you read the sentimental stuff and now it's time for the silly stuff. Get ready to laugh, snicker, snort, and giggle as you read these latest Fisher-isms:

  • Riley told Maggie that he thought he owned a Pokemon card that was worth $3,000. Maggie replied: Boom chicka boom...we'll be set for life!
  • Me to Maggie: You are an old soul that likes old tunes. Her reply: Yeah well, at least I'm not a dead, old soul.
  • Maggie: My armpits are itching and then my knees started itching. Wait...why aren't they called leg pits?
  • Riley: My top fear is lobsters right now. (He actually meant crab because we think he got bit by one last year, but he got the two confused...there aren't many lobsters in these parts.)
  • Riley (tired from a long day): Playstation has good games, but XBox has choir holidy. I mean higher quality...that didn't come out right.
  • Maggie exploring new names for her future doggie daycare business in addition to Bark Lives Matter: Maggers Waggers or Margaret's Targets (it could include ax throwing for the grown-ups)
  • Maggie: If I get a husband, I don't want him to be like you dad. You're too silly and mushy for me.
  • Maggie (taking over an hour to fold her laundry): I just can't resist dancing to Alexa music.
  • Riley: The Lord's Prayer is not really appropriate for Enchilada Taco Night.
  • Chris to Riley: Are you just going to sleep right here, standing up? Riley (as he raised one leg and lowered his head): Yes, like a flamingo.
  • Chris every time Maggie gets home from her Hip Hop lessons: So did you hop around on stage and hide eggs?
  • Maggie: Mom, there's a boy in my class and he has eczema like me, so I told him to go to the doctor and get triamcinolone acetonide ointment. (And she said it correctly).
  • Maggie to me: Mom, I can tell when you're a grandma, you're going to have a double chin. I see that line and flubber, so I can tell your future. (Geez...thanks, kid!)
  • Maggie: I love when the Adams next door have their porch light on at bedtime. It emits so much light!! (She is currently still afraid of the dark and sleeps with about 3 nights lights and a hallway light.)
  • Riley: Google translates jokes on Thanksgiving as Gobble Gobble. Chris (without missing a beat): Oh, I thought they would be in TURKish.
  • Maggie watching the first round of March Madness: I am UPSET about this upset (Oral Roberts versus Ohio State).
  • Maggie has created a new word to torment Chris with: Hey dad, you're a DINGUS! (It's not a compliment. :)
  • Maggie saying prayer at dinner: Thanks for today and help my stuffy nose feel better and my puffed up vein to get better and all the other things in my head that I forgot to say.
  • Riley (at Bob Evans restaurant): I think I'll order ham with my breakfast platter to get in the Easter spirit.
  • Riley: I'm so glad Poppaw (Tom Alexander) passed down that collard recipe to Grandmama so that I could taste perfection!
  • Maggie (as we checked into a hotel in Savannah over Spring Break): I'm living the MAX life! This is a good hotel room for dancing. I just need my Alexa.
  • Riley (our resident food connoisseur): Rush's fries need more salt tonight. It's okay though...the burgers soaked up all their goodness.
  • Maggie: I can't believe I had to go all night without my sound machine. All I had for noise was dad's nose. (referencing his loud snoring)
  • Riley (as he was getting out of the car at drop off line one morning): Oh no...I wore my slippers to school and forgot to put on my shoes and I've got PE today. Chris (as he drove him home to change): Well, that was a pretty DINGUS move!

Food, Fun, Fondue, Friends, & Family

So 2020 "wrapped" up the year on a great note, even if it was the most unusual year we've ever had! We got to open gifts at home and while we were eating breakfast, it started to snow. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was a beautiful reminder of the simple joys in life that sometimes get overlooked when we are too busy worrying about possessions, positions, and prestige. Our true Peace comes from the the most precious gift of all...Christ!

Our family kicked off the New Year by going to eat at a new restaurant in downtown Rock Hill called Kounter that was part of the Friendship Nine sit-in many years ago. And then Edward arranged for our entire family to watch a Lip Sync Battle where we sent in video submissions of ourselves in advance and we watched them together and had a live online vote. Amanda was the reigning champion this year, but Maggie was second with her rendition of "It's The End of the World As We Know It." It was truly one of my highlights of the year!  I also  had a great time as always setting my new goals for the year and this year I created a Vision Board. I pick one word each year to focus on as my theme for the year and this year that word is DISCIPLE. I'm praying that the Holy Spirit will make me a closer follower of Christ and that in turn, I'll be able to help point others to Him as well. One of my goals is to limit the amount of time I scroll Facebook in the evenings, so I took on a project his year of creating a miniature coffeehouse to keep me busy.

Over our Christmas break since we didn't travel to Indiana this year, we cashed in one of our surprise "experience gifts" that we gave the kids this year and took them to Great Wolf Lodge for the first time. They absolutely LOVED riding the water slides like the Tornado.

Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, Riley was able to make progress with his Pack by earning his Arrow of Light and bridging over to Scouts. And after two camping trips (one in March and one in April), he ranked up to Scout. He was pretty excited to camp for two nights without his dad or mom hanging around. And he had a pretty good time working on his merit badges for Pets, Digital Electronics, and Electricity. We're proud of his hard work and support his enthusiasm.

Maggie got to have some one on one dates with Mom during a few of these camping trips. And she also got to spend some time with a few of her friends as well (Zoe and Isla know how to make her smile for sure!).

One of my goals this year to is to try a new recipe each month that is somewhat gourmet-ish. Mostly to try and learn new recipes and because Riley and Chris both really appreciate flavorful new dishes. The first dish pictured is Tex Mex meatballs that Chris made. He has been finding all kinds of great recipes for us to try and he knocks it out of the park 9 times out of 10! I made a fancy cobb salad, some cornish hens, and my traditional fondue course for Valentine's so far. I'm not nearly as natural at it as Chris, but I'll keep trying. And my favorite way to cook is to have good sous chefs by my side and make it a true team effort. The food always taste better when I don't have to do all the cooking myself! :) And one of my favorite times to put together food is when I'm planning snacks for a QCP playdate! This year, I had a make-your-own-trail mix bar and we read some verses and did a quick object lesson about God's love before we began. I am so grateful that God gave us both taste buds and our sense of smell (two symptoms that were lost for many people while they had COVID). I know that food is such a fun activity to gather around and enjoy with others. I doubt that I will ever be a great cook, but I pray that my family gets filled in other ways by the best Cook of all!  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6)

For Valentine's Day, our sweet friends, Alexa and Roger set up a Scavenger Hunt around town for Chris and I to solve together. We took the kids with us on the adventure and got to share in the excitement of unlocking clues, sharing what we love about each other, and remembering why we got married. It was such a selfless act of love and a reminder to do that for each other as well.

Having good friends is so important. I am so lucky to be blessed with so many. This group of gals from college (CSTALCK...our acronym using the first letter of each of our names) brings me a lot of joy. On the day that I was able to get my 2nd vaccine shot, I was able to head to Columbia for a quick weekend trip with some of my faves! We enjoy trying new activities and this time we went to a wine and food tasting at a local bakery. The food was mediocre, but the fellowship was on point! I always learn new things from our time together. This time, Sara led us in discovering our Enneagrams. It's so nice to be able to have a group of gals to just kick back and relax with, no matter what our Enneagram number or animal (from sloth to lion). :)

We are also extremely lucky to have our QCP friends still in our lives! The kids and the grown-ups LOVE getting together for all kinds of events, playdates, fundraisers, and random nights.

Okay, I'm losing my momentum for blogging and am just going to photo dump these last bits of glimpses from our lives these past few months of FUN. As you can tell, we have had an awesome time (from snow tubing in February and recovering from sore bums at Hawksnest to checking out Savannah, GA over Spring Break in April and everything in between):

I LOVED hosting the IF Conference at my house this year with Stephanie, Kim, Alexa, Kyra, and Brandy. We laughed, cried, and learned!

Having date nights once a month with my main squeeze is also one of my yearly goals. We missed January, but we managed to go to Sweet Tea Cafe in February, Happy Hour in March right before I hosted IF, and Kounter and Ay Papi in April.

I always enjoy Spirit Days when the kids dress up at school.

My "SWEET" girls!!

Papa loves to launch rockets with Riley!

So, I'll end with one of my favorite toasts my friend Jess taught me.
"There are big ships and small ships
And ships that sail the sea...
But the best ships are friendships
And may they ever be."
Looking back over these pictures brings me joy because I realize that life is really all about relationships! The food, fun, and festivities would be nothing if we didn't love and care about the people were were spending our time with. Invest each day in the things (or people) that matter most! And don't forget to invite God into those relationships as well. Then you'll really have something to CHEERS about!
