Fisher Funny-isms Summer Edition

And now for my favorite part of the blog-recording the funny/sweet/silly things my two darlings let slide out of their mouths:

  • Riley was eating at Viet Thai and decided to order his own bowl of pho for the first time. Upon tasting it, he exclaimed, "You've got to try these noodles especially after they have been 'basking' in this warm broth!"
  • Maggie has all kinds of special bedtime rituals and routines. Some last longer than others. Recently, she stated, "I really miss tickling your armpits."
  • We were talking about someone losing something and how they had to retrace their steps. Maggie piped up, "I know, retrace their steps means they get chalk and trace each time they step."
  • This was just made me snort laugh! Maggie is quite the jokester too. Here's one for you that she told us over the summer: "I found a fly that can't fly, so it's now called a walk."
  • We took up playing tennis a few times as a family during our time off from school. We were teaching the kids the names of some of the swings. I asked Maggie if she could do a backhand like I showed her. She replied, "I'm doing a backwards side bottom right now with my raquet."
  • Riley is starting to pick up on subtleties. He was reading a somewhat scary book (The House with a Clock in its Walls) and he made the remark, "Mom this makes perfect sense. The pictures are by Edward Gory, get it?"
  • Maggie saw a billboard on a busy road near our house that was urging ladies about a yearly wellness procedure. She misread a few letters though and said, "Mom, you have to go schedule your 'mommagram'."
  • I put together a fondue night for us in June and we were discussing the temperature of a piece of steak. Chris told him that his piece looked "medium well." Riley commented that the next piece looked "small well." It took me a minute to follow Riley's thought process on this until I realized he was thinking about it like sizes...small, medium, large! :)
  • Riley has a new "Man Cave" that he put in his room as an area that he can go to be alone, take a break, calm down, etc. He even has a door hanger with "Riley's Man Cave In Use" to remind us when he's in there. Maggie wanted to do the something similar so she created "Maggie's Secret Lair" and one side of her sign it says, "In Progress" and the other side says, "Out of Progress."
  • The kids were playing in the basement one day and Maggie told me that they heard a weird sound. She said that Riley got a bat, but she didn't need one because she got "all fisted up!" She then proceeded to show me her muscles and tell me the details of her elaborate "battle plan,"
  • Being able to select their own drink from the cool Coke dispensers with a thousand flavors is one of the highlights for both kids when we go out to eat at fast food restaurants. Maggie let me know that "Riley already 'gurgled' down his Fanta and wanted a refill and could she get one too?"
  • Maggie has been on two different kinds of prescription medicine for over a year now as we have worked to get her allergies under control. The doctor told us we could stop one of the pills for a bit and see how she does. I overheard her telling Riley about the new change: "Yeah, I can 'wound' off the pills and just have the vitamin."
